After months sitting side-by-side in the front row of a first-year chemistry lecture, we eventually got up the nerve to grab lunch at the Guelph-famous Bullring. Bonding over study-dates, Body Pump, and high school theatre days gone by, it was the start of our life together.
After many years and time zones (Guelph, Toronto, Kingston, Vancouver, London) variably apart for school, we are so happy to now come home to one another every day. At two ends of the infectious diseases spectrum (clinical care & mathematical modelling) we always enjoy chatting about work, especially while cooking dinner — Ali following the recipe to a T, and Jesse ... improvising.
Having just defended his thesis, Jesse flew to Vancouver, and together we set out on a backcountry camping trip in Garibaldi Provincial Park — complete with bears! After climbing Panorama Ridge with full packs, and polishing off some truly mediocre tacos, Jesse asked Ali to marry him. Ali said yes. After tears, lots of hugs, and obligatory selfies, Ali promptly returned the ring for safekeeping, until they reached the bottom.
